How to Measure Your Dog’s Neck for the Perfect Collar Fit

Finding the right collar size for your dog is important for their comfort and safety. A collar that is too tight can be uncomfortable, while one that is too loose may slip off. Here’s a simple guide to measuring your dog’s neck so you can choose the perfect fit.

Method 1: Using a Soft Measuring Tape

The easiest way to measure your dog’s neck is with a flexible measuring tape, like the kind used for sewing. Follow these steps:

  1. Have your dog sit or stand still – This makes it easier to get an accurate measurement.

  2. Wrap the measuring tape around your dog’s neck – Place it where the collar would normally sit, just above the shoulders.

  3. Ensure a comfortable fit – You should be able to fit two fingers between the measuring tape and your dog’s neck. This ensures the collar is snug but not too tight.

  4. Record the measurement. Use this number to find the right collar size according to the size chart on our website.

Method 2: Using a String and a Ruler

If you don’t have a soft measuring tape, don’t worry! You can use a simple piece of string or ribbon and a ruler:

  1. Take a piece of string or ribbon – Make sure it’s long enough to wrap around your dog’s neck.

  2. Wrap the string around your dog’s neck – Place it in the same spot where a collar would sit.

  3. Mark or hold the spot where the ends meet – You can use a pen or pinch the string at the correct length.

  4. Lay the string flat and measure it with a ruler – This will give you an accurate neck size.

Choosing the Right Collar Size

Once you have the measurement, check our size guide to find the best fit. If your dog’s measurement is between sizes, it’s usually best to choose the larger size for comfort.
